I grew up on a small farm in Southeastern Michigan. I loved reading as a child. My favorite books included Make Way For Ducklings, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and the original Boxcar Children. I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education with a major in Speech Pathology from Central Michigan University (Go Chips!) and an M.A. in Speech Pathology from Eastern Michigan University. I worked in education for 35 years. During that time I put great value on literacy and incorporated picture books in my sessions. I completed a training program through the Institute of Multi Sensory Education in working with struggling readers.
I am a wife, a mom and a grammy. I live with my husband, Joe in Southeastern, Michigan.
My Writing Journey
I've loved writing since I was a child. I have kept a journal; actually several, since college. It's always been a source of peace for me to write down my thoughts, feelings and observations. I thought that one day I might write the great American novel. As I neared my retirement I began to think about writing again. Only now the idea of writing for children became appealing to me. I saw the joy that my daughter and granddaughters got from books and I wanted to be a contributor to that kind of joy in children. It felt as though God was prompting me and leading me through this journey as opportunities were popping up in front of me. I began by attending a picture book intensive where I learned so much including how much I had yet to learn. That's when I joined SCBWI and started reading every book on the craft of writing for children I could get my hands on! I've been in love with the process ever since and my journey continues.
My Writing Goal
To Engage, Enlighten, Educate, Entertain and Empower Children through the power of the written word.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me
